Amy's surprise Dinner party

The plan was simple, throw a 37+ week pregnant lady a surprise dinner party to celebrate her 30th birthday and not have her so surprised that the baby pops out unexpectedly.  The other problem was how to keep her off the scent of a party in her own house.  With the help of Amy's friend Karin Extine (from Forte), Karin took Amy out for a standard Starbucks talk-athon and when she came back there was a chef, server, husband and 7 of her closest friends waiting to have a party.  It was quite a fun and cool dinner party and the menu was made of course so Amy could eat everything there.  The server served drinks and appetizers while the chef cooked up salad, dinner and prepped a birthday cake.  They even cleaned and did dishes so there wasn't too much work * for us to do when the house was once again empty.

*the hardwoods needs a good Steam to get rid of the sauteed scallop sauce but that was it.

The menu was as follows:

Appetizers
Salmon stuffed puff pastries
Wild salmon, sauteed spinach and onions folded into a savory puff pastry baked until golden brown and served with a roasted pepper sauce.

Vegetarian stuffed mushrooms
large mushrooms cap filled with minced vegetables and herbs then topped with Parmesan cheese.

Fig and Cheddar crostini
Wine soaked figs, pureed and smeared on crostini with a crumble of sharp cheddar. Served warm.

Salad course
Butter leaf and wild greens salad with a mustard vinaigrette, tomatoes, roasted beets and herbed croutons.

Main course

Seared sea scallops on asparagus risotto
Creamy Italian style rice with asparagus and roasted shallots then topped with pan seared sea scallops and minced tomatoes.

Dessert
Chocolate chocolate cake from Sugar Bakery.

Unfortunately there weren't any pictures taken since everyone was so busy enjoying themselves.

Overall it was a great celebration and we had a ton of fun.  It was super awesome that Matt & Julie, Jeremy and Samara, Nicky D, Lynnette and Karin were able to celebrate this day with Amy.  Thank you all for coming and thanks to Nicky D and Karin for keeping Amy in the dark.  We are hella sneaky!
